Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week 2025

Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week is the national week in the UK for raising awareness of sexual abuse and violence. Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week occurs from the 3rd until the 9th February.

How can I get involved in Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week at the University of Greenwich?

Report + Support will be hosting a stand at Dreadnought Building on Monday the 3rd February from 12:00 till 3:00 pm. Come along, take part in some activities and have a chat with the Report + Support team and the GSU officers. 

We will be sharing useful information about the importance of understanding consent, support available both internally within the University and externally through organisations that offer support to people who have experience Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence.

Join us on Wednesday 5th February at 4:15 pm. at Dreadnought Building (by the Café) and help us spread the word around Campus. Take part in a 15-minute walk to Light up the Night against Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence.

What is Sexual Violence?

Sexual violence is a general term used to describe any unwanted sexual activity and includes any act by violence, coercion or manipulation, regardless of the relationship between the parties.

What is Sexual Abuse?

Sexual abuse is when someone is forced, pressured or tricked into taking part in any kind of sexual activity with another person. It could be online or in person, and it can happen to anyone.

Sexual abuse can include (but is not limited to):

  • being pressured or forced to do something sexual or have sex
  • someone flashing or exposing themselves to you in person or online
  • being pressured or told to share sexual images or videos of yourself
  • being sent, shown or given sexual pictures and videos, including porn
  • being given things or made to feel like you owe someone something sexual
  • doing anything sexual without your consent

What Support is Available?

If you, or anyone you know, have been affected by any form of harassment, support is always available.

Visit reportandsupport.gre.ac.uk and ask to speak to an advisor and a specially-trained member of staff will provide information on reporting options and support available to help you make an informed decision on what happens next.
